Over the last two years, Ranveer Singh has been in a slump in terms of box-office hits. It has two reasons – one COVID-19 hit due to which audiences didn’t turn up in theatres and two – even though Cirkus was a commercial movie, audiences disliked the movie which the movie bombed at the box office. While he was highly appreciated for his performance in 83, the movie did become a blockbuster success as one had anticipated. However, all eyes are on Karan Johar’s next Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani which may work for Singh.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that he hopes Ranveer Singh bounces back with this Karan Johar directorial. “I hope that he bounces back with Karan Johar's film. He is collaborating with Karan for the first time and Alia Bhatt for the second time after Gully Boy. I am looking forward to that film. He is a great talent,” he said.
He added, “I feel Ranveer has it in him – one good commercial film. I loved him in Simmba and Padmaavat also. He was awesome in that film. He has that talent and to say that he only works better commercially with Sanjay Leela Bhansali would be wrong. You are doing it wrong with his talent. He has given a hit with Rohit Shetty with Simmba and he even had a small role in Sooryavanshi. Maybe with this upcoming film in July, it could be a turning point for him.”
Slated for July 2023 release, the film stars Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi.
